Mikael Ingemarsson Odenberg, born December 14, 1953, in Stockholm, is a Swedish politician of the Moderate Party. He has been a member of the Riksdag since 1991, and is the group leader of the moderates in the Riksdag. As of October 6, 2006 he is Minister for Defence in the Swedish Government. His sister Christina Odenberg was the Bishop of Lund between 1997 and 2007.
Military service
Mikael Odenberg started his military service July 23, 1973 in the Coastal Artillery at the KA 4 training regiment in Göteborg. He finished with good grades August 30, 1974. He later went through Reserve Officer education. As a Second Lieutenant he was trained at the Söderarm battery in the Roslagen archipelago, outside Stockholm. His platoon leader at the time was current Commander in Chief of the Swedish Armed Forces Håkan Syrén. Odenberg today formally holds the rank of Major.
